Let’s take a wander around the Var and discover the 20 Bed & Breakfasts that make up our network
Each has it’s own individual, authentic charm as a quality Bed and Breakfast, why not discover for yourself each in turn on our site, or follow your own curiosity and browse around their own websites.
Most member B&Bs have their own swimming pool, some heated, surrounded by all you need to relax or follow more active and and sporty pursuits, whichever you choose you’ll have all you need for a romantic and relaxing stay.
The area of the Var known as “Green Provence” (Sainte Baume)
Let’s take a trip around “Lush Provence” with its splendid B&Bs. « La Maison de la Cigale » (literally Cicada House) in Forcalqueiret with it’s simple, authentic cuisine is situated very near the regional park Sainte Baume; as is the « le Clos Géraldy » ” in St-Maximin where you can enjoy 3.5 acres of grounds planted with lavender, vines and even its own olive grove, as well as an exclusive Spa and Hamman with its own fitness centre and wellbeing massages available.
Nearby, the « La Bastide de la Provence Verte » in Roquebrussane, is tucked away at the end of a magnificent track which leads to an oasis of absolute calm in 7 acres of grounds, with heated pool, its olive groves and pine woodland.
Last but by no means least, as we climb up through the Gapeau valley, we come to “ la Bergerie des Oliviers “in Méounes-lès-Montrieux, this traditional country house is located right in the heart of the Regional Park St Beaume in over 24 acres of grounds.
Of note, all four of these establishments are less than 40mins from the sea, close to the magnificent cave at Sainte Beaume and the villages in the West of this district (Le Castellet, Evenos, Le Beausset and Signes).
Further up towards the northwest of this area, are two superb bed and breakfasts waiting to welcome you: the first is « Domaine St Dominique » ” in Sellans-Source-d’Argens where relaxation is “a must”; the second being « Bellone en Provence » in Brue-Auriac, an exceptionel and untouched paradise, where silence still makes itself heard! These two bed & breakfasts offer easy access tos the Bouches du Rhône (Rhône Estuary) including Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence on the one side; and the Gorges du Verdon (Verdon Gorges) on the other, with the sea just an hour’s drive away: now that can’t be all bad!
The Var coastal area Côte d’azur
The irresistible pull of the Mediterranean may well bring you to the Côte d’Azur and indeed to the « Villa Thalassa » in Le Lavandou with its superb bed and breakfast with stunning sea views and its own quirky, gypsy-caravan sauna. The « La Bastide de Fontvieille » in St Cyr sur Mer is an old vineyard surrounded by cypress and olive trees and is just 3km from the beach. Both B&Bs offer advice on what to see and do on the islands of Porquerolles and Port-Cros, and where else to best savour the warm sands of our famous Var beaches (la Capte, l’Estagnol, Brégançon, le Pélegrin etc).
Notwithstanding these gems, the area inland also offers its fair share of bed and breakfasts that will welcome you in style and comfort. Here are a few more of our beautiful establishments to be found in the Central Var and Provence Verte areas
In the Heart of the Var
Let’s start inthe heart of the Var. We’d like to suggest the « La Grande Lauzade » (le Luc en Provence) in Le Luc en Provence with its indoor, heated pool built in the cellar of an old priory. Its jacuzzi, sauna and gym will help make your stay a very pleasant one, quirky even, with its American school bus.
Next follows an escape back to nature with the tranquillity of the « La Maison de Nathalie » in Les Mayons, a bed and breakfast located in the wilds of the Massif des Maures, which surprises on several levels, such as the elaborate cuisine, using fresh, organic produce right from the garden or local artisans meats and vegetables.
St Tropez and its surrounds
Who hasn’t dreamed of swimming around Ramatuelle’s beaches near Pamplonne: here two establishments the « l’Amandari » in Plan de la Tour -offering a gastro-stay either in a room or gypsy-caravan with wine tastings and their own specialities – and the « la Bastide Selva » in La Garde Freinet – with its typical and richly coloured Table d’hôte cuisine – are both ideally located a stone’s throw away from Sainte Maxime and the gulf of St Tropez, a hot date on the Côte d’Azur. Our top tip: try a pizza at the Pomme de Pin in Ramatuelle: they’re excellent.
Our last treasure in the heart of the Var is the very pretty bed and breakfast , the « Maison Saint Louis » in Bresse/Issole – an old, Provençal abbey with its spa, situated right in the heart of the village brimming with history of Gaspard de Bess: one not to be missed.
The Verdon Gorges area
Lastly our remaining establishments that are part of our stunning network are to be found towards the north of our region and are ideally located for you to explore the Gorges du Verdon and the medieval villages of the Haute Var:
Let’s start by heading from West to East with a guesthouse boasting two pools, a sauna, jacuzzi and Hammam, the « Le Mas de Cotignac » in Cotignac run by a Michelin-listed restaurateur, very close to the Provençal village in the heart of Provence Verte.
Of note, Cotignac is one of the most beautiful villages in the Var, a lot like Entrecasteaux where we find the « Bastide Notre Dame » a vast family home a stone’s throw away from the castle and just 10 minutes from Cotignac, with its breath-taking views and shaded grounds.
On top of all this, slightly further East we find the « Clos d’Alari »in Saint-Antonin du Var, a B&B which has stayed true to its vocation as a family home where you will be indulged in an establishment priding itself on the marriage of its Table d’Hôte cuisine with its select choice of wines.
The Area around Dracénie
The« La Villa de Lorgues » is an imposing manor house, completely restored in keeping with its authenticity as an exceptional building and home, discover all of the delights, sites, vineyards and cuisine on offer locally, with their expert advice..
To round up our sightseeing tour of the Var and its B&B treasures, our last three establishments are all magnificent buildings typical of what can be found in the Var amongst its inhabitants.
Let’s start with the « La Source Saint Michel » in Draguignan, a splendid house with its own tennis court and pétanque pitch for guests’ use along with its wine-tasting cellars.
Next the « Le Clos des Cambres » in Les Arcs, mixes with grace noble stone and original features with modern architecture and is ideally located towards the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
And to finish up our tour of our magnificent region why not stay at the ” au Mas des Romarins ” in Fayence, an old, stone-built flower farm that has been fully restored with care and attention to detail. This grand old dame is located in 3.5 acres of grounds with its olive grove, bees and hens surrounded by perfume roses and vines just a few minutes from the village.
